Lowe’s is a big DIY store in the US specialising in home and garden improvement products. Its YouTube channel offers hundreds of videos, including how-to videos covering everything from tiling a shower and painting cabinets to installing worktops. There’s also a really handy DIY Basics section, where you can pick up tips on smaller jobs like cleaning a fireplace, finding wall studs and unclogging blocked drains. Although some of the terminology used is American, most of it is easy to understand in English and you should be able to pick up any pieces of kit they recommend in DIY stores across the UK.

This is a UK-based YouTube channel run by real tradesmen. There are tutorials on all aspects of DIY from carpentry and plumbing to plastering, brickwork and carpeting. Popular videos include how to mix cement in a mixer, how to lay a path and how to install folding doors. There are also plenty of product reviews and tool guides, too. Most of the videos lack the slick polish of other DIY home improvement YouTube channels, particularly the US ones, but that adds to their charm.
This popular channel offers home improvement and home décor ideas, as well as decluttering and budgeting tips. One of the most popular playlists is on DIY projects for the home, featuring videos on everything from fixing squeaky door hinges and hanging curtains to building floating shelves. The videos are short and don’t go into very much detail, but they’re great for inspiration. There’s even a playlist of videos on the channel featuring Marie Kondo, the self-styled queen of home organisation and tidying.
There’s a less extensive range of videos on this channel compared to Lowe’s, but it’s worth a look nonetheless as there’s some handy DIY tips and hints in here too. Particularly useful are the ‘how-to’ guides on basic home renovation projects like wallpapering, painting and flooring. There’s also a handy section for renters on quick fixes they can do to their property without having to involve the landlord, such as replacing a toilet seat, essential tools and kit for home movers and tips on assembling flat pack furniture. If you’re green-fingered there’s some really informative garden guides, too.
