Protect Your Home

We’ve put together some tips on what to do should you have an accident or water incident of your own – as well as lots more to help keep your home in tip-top condition.

Mobile phone dropped in water

Unfortunately, most of us have been here. Our snazzy new phone has found its way into a sink, a bath, a swimming pool or a toilet. All is not lost though.

Take the phone out of the water as soon as you can. It’s possible it might only have had a little damage done if you got it out quickly. Take the phone apart if you can (sorry iPhone users!).

Pat off as much water as possible then suck as much water out with a vacuum cleaner. Take your time and hold it over all open points for a couple of minutes each. DO NOT try and dry with a hair dryer; this will only blow water deeper into the phone. Finally place your phone in a bag of rice for the night. This will help draw the moisture out.

The following day, take the phone out and place it on some kitchen roll or another absorbent material. If you see any moisture has come out, repeat the vacuum and rice procedure until no more water comes out.

After that, it’s a case of keeping your fingers crossed and remembering to bin the rice afterwards.
